The most dangerous prison is not always made of iron. Sometimes it is made of ego, desire, fear, envy, and the need for approval. A person may walk freely in the world while being trapped inside his own habits.

The Qur’an warns human beings against following desires blindly. Desire itself is not evil, but when desire becomes the ruler of the soul, judgment becomes weak. A person begins to justify what is wrong because it feels comfortable.

Spiritual freedom begins with self-mastery. It means being able to remain truthful when lying is easy, patient when anger rises, and humble when success arrives.

The prison of the self is broken slowly through reflection, prayer, learning, and moral discipline.

Reflection question: What desire or fear controls my decisions more than it should?

سب سے خطرناک قید ہمیشہ لوہے کی نہیں ہوتی۔ کبھی یہ انا، خواہش، خوف، حسد اور لوگوں کی خوشنودی کی شکل میں ہوتی ہے۔ انسان باہر سے آزاد نظر آتا ہے مگر اندر سے اپنی عادتوں کا قیدی ہوتا ہے۔

قرآن انسان کو خواہشات کی اندھی پیروی سے بچاتا ہے۔ خواہش بذات خود بری نہیں، لیکن جب خواہش انسان پر حاکم بن جائے تو فیصلہ کمزور ہو جاتا ہے۔ انسان غلط بات کو بھی اس لیے درست ثابت کرنے لگتا ہے کہ وہ اسے آسان لگتی ہے۔

روحانی آزادی خود پر قابو سے شروع ہوتی ہے۔ آسان جھوٹ کے مقابلے میں سچ بولنا، غصے کے وقت صبر کرنا، اور کامیابی کے وقت عاجز رہنا آزادی کی نشانیاں ہیں۔

سوال: کون سا خوف یا خواہش میرے فیصلوں کو ضرورت سے زیادہ متاثر کر رہی ہے؟
